AcademyHealth
Established in June 2000, AcademyHealth is a merger between the Alpha Center and the Association for Health Services Research. With 4,000 individual members and 125 affiliated organizations AcademyHealth encourages interaction between health policy and research by allowing professionals to share perspectives and information. It is an association dedicated to providing policy makers with research analysis, information dissemination, networking, and professional development opportunities. The Tools link provides access to Research Syntheses on a variety of policy relevant findings as well as a glossary of healthcare terminology.
American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE)
Founded in 1933, the ACHE now has more than 30,000 members. Its goal is "to advance our members and healthcare management excellence through high ethical standards, pertinent knowledge and a relevant credentialing program." More than 4,000 participants attend its Congress on Healthcare Leadership each year. Through its Health Administration Press, ACHE publishes Healthcare Executive, Frontiers, and Journal of Healthcare Management, and currently offers more than 130 books. The organization also offers self study courses for credit. Also of interest are several full-text research studies available for free.
American College of Physician Executives (ACPE)
This is an association of physicians (MDs and DOs) who manage healthcare organizations. It was founded in 1975 as the Academy of Medical Directors and currently has more than 10,000 members. The goal of ACPE is to "support physicians in acquiring the leadership skills and credentials necessary to effectively lead at all levels in organizations and in all sectors of the healthcare industry." The ACPE website includes a free online magazine, The Leading Edge, links to Mediwire articles, and information about continuing education, certification, and career resources.
American Hospital Association (AHA)
Since 1898, the AHA has represented and served all types of hospitals and health care networks, along with their patients and communities. Members include 5,000 hospitals, healthcare systems, networks, other providers of care, and 37,000 individuals. Through this content-rich website, you will find news, advocacy resources, and hundreds of links to additional sources of information. AHA is a participant in the HospitalConnect online gateway which provides access to the resources of various healthcare management communities. Included in the resources offered by AHA are hospital fast facts, statistics, studies, news articles, and advocacy resources.
American Public Health Association (APHA)
Founded in 1872, the APHA is committed to protecting and promoting personal, mental, and environmental health. Its more than 50,000 members consist of physicians, nurses, educators, academicians, environmentalists, epidemiologists, social workers, health administrators, optometrists, podiatrists, pharmacists, dentists, nutritionists, health planners, and consumers. Members have full-text access to the association's publications, American Journal of Public Health and The Nation's Health, as well as to a Health Topics database of articles. Selected cover stories from The Nation's Health are also freely available on the site.
American Society of Healthcare Human Resources Administration
The American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA), a personal membership group of the American Hospital Association (AHA), is the nation's only membership organization dedicated exclusively to meeting the needs of health care human resources practitioners. ASHHRA is recognized as the premier source of educational resources, industry research, HR tools, networking, and best practices for the health care HR professional.
Office of Global Affairs (OGA)
From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this site addresses global health and the link between international and domestic health issues. This searchable website offers links to world health statistics, health policy fact sheets, and country information. The Data Resources bar provides a link to the Reports and Publications section, including full-text access to health reports. You will also find news articles, electronic mailing lists and newsgroups, statements and speeches, frequently asked questions (FAQs), and about 70 unannotated links to additional Internet resources.
GREEN: Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions (CSEP)
Established in 1976 at the Illinois Institute of Technology, CSEP promotes research and teaching on practical moral issues in the professions. Although better known for its work on ethics in engineering and science, the center has also conducted research and teaching in the healthcare arena. Its website provides a comprehensive list of Codes of Ethics Online, including an extensive list under the topic of Health Care. Other resources available include access to the CSEP library catalog, center publications, and links to other ethic resources.

eHI serves as a leader to identify best practices, monitor trends and developments in the field, and convene multi-stakeholder groups to guide health IT progress across three areas; Using Data and Analytics to Improve Care, IT Infrastructure to Support Accountable Communities and Value-Based Care Initiatives and connecting communities through Interoperable Data Exchange.
Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP)
Sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), HCUP is a compilation of healthcare databases that includes the largest collection of longitudinal hospital care data in the United States, beginning in 1988. The cooperative project is based on data collected by individual states and provided to AHRQ. It is used to identify patterns of care for particular diseases, analyze hospital procedures, and study the care of population sub-groups such as minorities. Tabs on the home page link to the various databases by general topic and include National and Regional Statistics from the NIS, National and Regional Statistics on Children Only from the KID, State Statistics from the SID, Statistics by Payer, Quick Statistics, and AHRQ Quality Indicators.
Kaiser Family Foundation
Kaiser is a non-profit organization focusing on national health issues, as well as the U.S. role in global health policy. Unlike grant-making foundations, Kaiser develops and runs its own policy analysis, journalism and communications programs, sometimes in partnership with major news organizations. Kasier serves as a non-partisan source of facts, analysis and journalism for policymakers, the media, the health policy community and the public.

National Information Center on Health Services Research and Health Care (NICHSR)
The NICHSR at the National Library of Medicine was created to improve "the collection, storage, analysis, retrieval, and dissemination of information on health services research, clinical practice guidelines, and on healthcare technology, including the assessment of such technology." It is geared to health practitioners, healthcare administrators, and policy makers. Several databases are available, including a Pilot health Services Research (HSR) Filters Project, which searches PubMed using built in filters that limit searches to health services. The HSRProj (Health Services Research Projects in Progress) is a searchable database of research in progress funded by various government agencies, private organizations, and foundations. The Outreach and Training link includes several free self study courses. Other full-text publications are publicly available.
RAND Health
A research division of the famous think tank, RAND Health provides access to health services research and publications. The site is searchable and students will be interested in the links to publications available online (in PDF format) and the RAND research documents. Abstracts of all RAND Health publications from 1970 through the present are fully searchable and also organized by general topic for browsing purposes.
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF)
Established in 1972, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) is dedicated to improving the health and health care of Americans. RWJF provides grants to organizations and institutions. Its searchable site includes full-text articles on healthcare research as well as briefs and reports at its Synthesis Project that synthesize research findings on health policy issues. Summaries of awarded grants, details of these grants, and contact information are available for the past several years. Guidelines and tools are also available for grant applicants.
